Technology and disability reinforce knowledge concerning assistive technology services and devices in the context of end consumers-persons living with disabilities and their family members. Examples of different approaches to discussing the link between technology and disability include training and education programs, development and research efforts, consumer experiences, and policy and service activities (Shew, 2021). Campbell’s concept of ableism is not only an issue of a negative stereotype or ignorance towards individuals living with disabilities, but also perfection trajectory, an ingrained approach to thinking concerning wholeness, permeability, bodies, and how some populations are enabled through valued entitlements (Shew, 2021). This connects to Dr. Ashley Shew’s five media tropes, whereby she held that negative attitudes encourage the public to view people living with disabilities as fakers or sinners or as dependent and burdensome. Nevertheless, a similarity between ableism and the media-supported tropes is that they are both misleading.
