3 Sociology Concepts: Symbolism Interactionist Theory, Functionalist Theory
By this point in the semester, students of sociology should have experienced either, or both, of two things. For one, there is likely to have been one or more things that was/were either presented during lecture or which would have been read in the text that result in an 'aha' moment. This/these thing/s, in other words, will have offered something by way of a 'surprise' relative to a student's already existing knowledge and/or one or more experiences that he or she has already had in life. For a second reason, it is likely that one or more concepts or theories encountered thus far will have 'resonated' with the student in the sense that it/them will have suggested a strategy or tactic for future behavior in some realm having personal meaning for that student. For this assignment, you are to select three (3) such concepts or theories and present - each in its own paragraph - a well written elaboration of what that concept or theory is and why it has struck you in the way it has. You are free to choose anything you have encountered in this course thus far. As always, first-rate responses will have no misspelled words and the proper rules of grammar will have been followed.

Functionalist Theory
The society is structured in such a way that there are aspects that are associated with certain genders and others are not. The education system is also structured in such a way that some of the courses offered are also targeted at the men than they are at women (Crossman, 2016). The structure and function theory speaks to this element of organization that is found in the society. This is an element that tends to limit the development that women can make in the various fields. It is common for example to find that engineering and technology courses among most other technical courses are dominated by the men that they are by women (Crossman, 2016).
