Amartya Sen and globalization
Amartya Sen (2015), looks at the history of globalization, pointing out that it started in the East and moved to the West with the spread of science, and technology from the East to the West and back to the East. The idea that globalization only promotes western values across the world has led to resistance against this phenomenon in other parts of the world. However, the world is now interdependent while the benefits accrue to different people and it is not possible to reverse the economic impact of globalization. The economic benefits of globalization and international trade are not evenly distributed, but this does not mean that the advantages that outweigh the costs should be ignored. Hence, ensuring that there is more equality in globalization, where actors take responsibility is necessary to defend globalization against accusations that it is a western curse (Sen, 2015).
