Primary Factor that Caused Polarization
The primary factor that caused polarization is the Republicans and Democrats divided ideology lines. There has been deep and extensive antipathy by partisans today as compared to the past 20 years. As a result, the trends manifest in numerous ways, daily life, and political views. In reference to the Pew Research Centre (2014), a survey of 10,000 adults showed that the divisions are more significant among the individuals who engage most and are active in the political process. Over the past two decades, the number of Americans who were expressing liberal or conservative opinions doubled, moving from 10% to 21% (Pew Research Centre, 2014). This implies that the ideological way of thinking is significantly aligned to partisanship compared to past years, which has resulted in a decrease in ideology overlap between these parties.
