Feminist Argumentative Critique
Understanding the realities and underpinnings that the LGBTQ society face is essential for understanding feminism. Contrary to what most would believe, feminism fights for the manifest equality between men and other genders and the subtle inequalities that the LGBTQ face in society. Accordingly, in this article, I would focus on some of these latent inequalities and discrimination that LGTBQ members face in society, as portrayed in Morgan Thomas’ short story entitled Alta’s Place. All in all, I believe that despite the advances in the feminist movement, absolute equality in the rights between gender still has a long way to go before it can fully be achieved.
Equality in Rights and Perception
One of the main issues that the current Feminist movement is yet to achieve is equality before the mind of the people and the system itself. This kind of equality is much harder to achieve, considering that compared to the right of suffrage, right to run for public office, and right to education, among others, the perception of individuals is much more challenging to identify and change. She moved to the city of Ulaanbaatar, hoping that she could find a job with her husband, but she was still unable to find one despite the vast population and needs of the city.
In line with this, I believe that these experiences suggest the continuing yet subtle discrimination upon members of the LGBTQ. Indeed, women’s ‘manifest’ and ‘quantifiable’ rights have improved with the passage of legislation that prevents discrimination. However, since society’s perception cannot easily be changed, this leads to more...
