1. Discuss the ways in which the noble cause argument explains and helps police rationalize police misconduct and involvement in corruption.
A commitment created within someone to achieve their own desired objectives can be regarded as a noble cause. This is a noble goal, but it is possible that the dedication will take precedence over the means of achieving the intended result. Unfortunately, many police officers will engage in unethical behavior in order to meet their objectives of making the world safer. Although this can be justified in some cases, the teleological ethical system is an excellent illustration of the justification of police misconduct (Goldsmith, 2016). The system states that although the activities may be unlawful and unethical, they can be justified as if they yielded good outcomes. In order to get the intended results, regulations must sometimes be bent in accordance with the argument.
2. Are codes of ethics important in guiding police practices and minimizing police misconduct? Explain.
I agree that the code of ethics plays a very integral role in guiding police practices and minimizing police misconduct as they mandate law enforcement officers to swear by oath to not only maintain proper conduct at all costs but also avoid the appearance of misconduct. It simply determines the right and wrong in police procedures. It lays the groundwork for the standards that officers must follow as well as acceptable behavior. It will reduce unethical behaviors such as profiling, use of excessive force, and discrimination. It will also guarantee that every agency undertakes the right measures for the community's safety and not just for their own.
