My philosophy of Leisure
Leisure is the use of one’s free time for enjoyment. Different people create their leisure time depending on how free they are and how many activities they want. I create my leisure time on different days when I do not go to work. My philosophy of leisure keeps on changing as I get older and understand how things work. As a child, I used to think that leisure was all about playing and having fun with my peers. Yes, leisure involves having fun with friends but does not necessarily include playing. As a teenager, my perception of leisure was almost the same, but play was little compared to when I was eight and nine years old. Currently, my philosophy of leisure has dramatically changed depending on what I want to do. Leisure to me is using my free time doing activities that I like. I understand that I may have little time to hang out with people and create more friends as I grow. The changing society does not give people more time to spend together because of the vast demands for money and other sources of livelihood. The little time I have has always allowed me to create leisure.
My philosophy of leisure is spending time at home doing activities that I enjoy. I do not necessarily need to have friends, but my family members are important as I spend the most critical moments of my life with them. I do not need to go out every time, but I can stay at home and spend time with those I love. As long as I am happy, I do not need to have a large group of people as my friends to create leisure time. Leisure involves being happy and contented with what one has, and it is an essential aspect of my life because I can create my own happy time (Bouwer & Leeuwen, 2017). To me, leisure is the sense of being from external distractors and stressors and having ample time with people I feel comfortable with. Every time I am always from work and school, I understand that I need to improve my life. I also know that I can be happier and avoid unnecessary stressors in life.
