Sexual consent can be crudely defined as an agreement between two individuals to participate in sexual activity. One has to inform their partner, or the person they are looking to have a sexual relationship with, about their intentions of engaging in sexual activity before they can initiate the act. Furthermore, the other person has to fully accept the advances son that it can be said that the sex was consensual (Pallikkathayil, 2020). There has been debate about the concept of sexual concept on many levels. What individuals seem to be interested in is the appropriate age at which one can consent to sex. People tend to disagree on the age as some say that particular age is too young for one to be able to consent to sex. Another thing that bothers me about sexual consent is the case of married couples. On the one hand, one would argue that coupes enjoy conjugal rights and that one can have sex whenever they feel like doing it. On the other hand, some quarters reiterate that everyone has the right to set their personal boundaries and respect others, especially in a marriage situation.
I find it difficult to comprehend what sexual consent entails from the above explications. In marriage, I do not understand the concept of marital rape in particular.
