Immigrants as Generic Category and Their Effect on the Economy

You will watch the video to see the complex explanations people present to explain their opposition of immigration, and will explore further whether you believe these excuses. You will explain your opinion using specifically cited references to our course lessons that led to your opinion of what you saw in the video.

(2) As you watch the video, keep track of the specific reasons for why people say they oppose immigration. Consider the fact that, despite the course lectures showing numerous restrictions on the statuses, why opponents continue to treat all immigration the same. For example, our lessons presented you with several explanations for the fears of immigration and immigrants (e.g., social cohesion, economic, voting, etc.).
(3) Analyze the nature and extent of fear of immigration. Consider, specifically, how the media, government, and public have caused, if not promoted, the crime. In about 500 words (approx. 1 page) address:
(3a) Show you understood the materials by using specifically cited references to our course materials (lessons, readings, podcasts, etc.) to explain what you understand is the the nature and extent of the fear of immigration. Just list out, in your own words, what you understand are the various sources of fear and how it is used/exploited. Do not just retype the lessons, rather, you must provide your own narrative and explanation based on the cited materials.
(3b) Based on specifically described scenes of the video, explain what do you believe is the real cause of the fear of immigrants.
Avoid general descriptions (e.g., "politics" or "economy"). To earn points, you must use specific examples and explanations from the videos that your understanding is based on. (to illustrate: "in X-video, it showed the people discussing their view of immigrants. It showed.... And this related to the exploitation of fear in that this narrative came from …. and what we next saw was...")
(3c) Based on specifically described scenes of the video, explain, why, despite the evidence showing otherwise, these false fears continue.
To illustrate:
"In the lessons X, despite the varied reasons people immigrate in the US, I saw in the video at the scene Z that "immigrants" all are grouped as a generic category. This happened when ..... In my opinion, by doing so, the real reason for opposition gets hidden. Because those-in-power (politicians, employers, etc.) can hide behind this boogeyman "immigrant" group, the real data on the actual concerns (fear losing racial hegemony, jobs, safety, etc.) escapes oversight."
