(3) Compare the immigrant stories in each video you chose to reflect on how a person's immigration journey will shape his/her experience in the US. Pay particular attention to how the Americans treat the person, and also, how it affects how the person perceives him/herself. Make sure to take note of what you saw that formed your opinion as you will need to cite it in the analysis.
(4) Conduct brief research to determine how US treats immigrant groups differently (e.g., imposing assimilation on certain immigrant groups). (Note, this is not intended to be complicated or extensive research: you simply are asked to briefly search on the internet for a blog, news article, etc. that depicts another real-world example that reminds you of what you saw in the video.) Your research must directly connect to what you saw depicted in the video. It does not have to be the same immigrant group, but it must reflect the same dynamic between the US' treatment of immigrants.

(5a) Show your understanding of the documentaries by describing what it showed what were the reasons those in the video came to the US. (connect it to the "push" and "pull" factors you explored in the first Learning Module). (5b) Cut-and-paste a hyperlink, screenshot, or upload a copy a copy of the headline, article, and/or video you found in your research. Summarize in your own words what you found in your research. Describe the part of the video your research explains or is an example of, and how it illustrates how this issue.
(5c) Use specifically cited references to each of the course materials, the videos, and your research explain how a person's immigration journey will shape his/her experience in the US. Specifically describe what you saw in the videos and in your research that reveals how the person's immigration journey affects not only how Americans treat the person, but also how the person perceives him/herself. Make sure to cite in-text the sources that form your opinion (see here info how to cite).
To illustrate:
"I watched X and Z videos. In X, the children immigrated to the US from B. In Z, the children immigrated from C. Despite the fact that they ethnicities and religions were different, they shared in their experience and treatment in the US. Across each video, there seemed to be three main reasons motivating their migration: (i) … (ii) …(iii). What I mean by each is …… In X we see this when …. Similarly in Z, we see this same theme when ….. The fact that both groups were pushed out of their homelands means that when they arrived in the US they were in Y condition. This affected how not only how others accepted them, but also, how they felt about the US. For example, in the video …."

Treatment of Immigrants
I watched two videos, The Lost Boys of Sudan and L(a)ost in Transition (Lao documentary). The Lost Boys of Sudan describes the experiences of young Sudanese adults who got the chance to immigrate to Boston, United States, from a refugee camp in Kakuma, Kenya (Youtube, 2016). They were victims of war in their home country before finding shelter in the camp. While I found it depressing to learn of their encounters during the war in Sudan and their distressing experiences in the refugee camp, I was pleased that the U.S. had in place programs to integrate them into a better life in the land of freedom. On the other hand, the Lao documentary describes the life of several Laotian families that have been integrated into Australian society (Youtube, 2012). I found this video quite interesting primarily because of the way the Laotians communicate fluently in English and the observance of their traditional religious practices. The two videos offer important knowledge in regards to how immigrants are treated in the two countries.
The Lost Boys of Sudan offers an understanding of the experiences of immigrants from refugee camps and what drove them to seek a better life in the United States. In addition, from the Lao documentary, the narration of the Laotians in Australia can help one understand what drove them to immigrate. While the two videos occur in two different contexts, there appear to be three factors that contributed to immigration to the U.S. and Australia: war, a chance at education, and employment.
In the Lost Boys of Sudan, the boys are driven by the civil war in their home country and are forced to move downwards towards Kenya and eventually into the refugee camp in Kakuma (Youtube, 2016). While interacting with children in Boston, one of the boys explains to them how he could not go back home because of the war that had ravaged his home country since 1983. Therefore, we see civil war as the biggest push factor for the immigration of the Sudanese boys into America. In addition, one of the boys who lost his parents in the war narrates how he feels they were still alive in his dreams but when he wakes up they are no longer there. Similarly, in the Lao documentary, the interviewees escaped war in Laos to seek a better life in Australia.
Apart from war, the chance at education was also a pull factor that drove the ...
