Based on the 10 suggestions for resisting persuasion discussed in chapter 18, explain how will you persuade the audience that is watching your video.
Persuading the audience makes a difference as they are more attentive and receptive since they are interested by the message being passed across. The speaker can then rely on the strategies of logos, ethos and pathos as forms of arguments to connect with the audience (Pearson et al., 2015). When persuading the audience there is a need to use logical proof based on either deductive or inductive arguments or even rebuttals. Another strategy is relying on source credibility, the audience trusts the speakers who are credible and know what they are saying. I will be thoroughly prepared before the presentation and address the concerns of the audience. Pathos is the emotional proof where the speaker connects to elicit emotions
Monroe’s motivated sequence highlights the case for organizing the persuasive message. Seeking attention and establishing the audience needs are essential steps to persuade them, and this is followed by satisfying the needs (Nettel & Roque, 2012). Additionally, through visualization and urging action to induce change, the strategy represents problem solving strategies where the audience is actively engaged and concerned about an issue. The art of persuasion is crucial in communication, but people may be reluctant to embrace change or are concerned with the threat to freedom and deception (Fransen, Smit, & Verlegh, 2015).
Another way of persuading the audience is using credible evidence to validate the claims made. Choosing unbiased sources of evidence, which support the well known facts is crucial to changing the audience behavior and attitude on the issue (Bonet, 2014). In case there is counter evidence, I will use logical proof to argue my view point. The sources identified will also be authoritative and reliable that the audience can trust them (Verderber, Verderber, & Sellnow., 2015). The audience may use contesting strategies to attack the source, message and even persuasive tactics. Overall, addressing the resistance motives elicits more positive reactions from the audience.
