Introduction
Substance abuse is a strong addiction that results from continual use or overuse of stimulant substance to the level that they lead to risks in health care. Alcohol is one of the most common substance that is abused with different populations and poses grieve health dangers (Proeschold-bell, Patkar, Naggie, Coward, Mannelli, Yao, Muir, 2012). Over and above the health concerns there are socioeconomic concerns that spread from the family to friends and careers (Burge, Amodei, Elkin, Catala & al, e, 1997). As such, alcohol problems can be compounded to several dangers to the person and to their support system. Different treatment intervention have varying degree of success, relative to the approaches used in each. In this case the Sadock and Sadock intervention is considered alongside the Minnesota Model of substance abuse treatment.
Invention Models
The Minnesota model of substance abuse treatment, uses the multi-modal approach to assist the patient that are suffering from alcoholism. The model was developed by Dr. Daniel Anderson with the assistance of Mr. Ralph Rossen, Dr. Jean Rossi and Rev. John Keller (Doweiko, 2014). They established a multidisciplinary approach, in which a team comprising of a psychologist, nurses, counsellor, clergy, recreational therapist and a physician. Each of the professional would make recommendation as to the areas of focus on the treatment plan. Interested parties such as recovering addicts, parole officers and family members were also included to make their contribution on the treatment plan. In this model, the professionals do not entirely rely on their judgment as they can seek guidance from the other professionals (Doweiko, 2014). The professionals would act as a guide to the patient, who would on the other hand recognize their power to change their situation.
Outcome
The outcome in this case was that there was relative treating patient suffering from substance abuse. One of the main successes is associated with helping patient with alcohol addiction fight the habit and recover successfully (Doweiko, 2014). Due to the significant outcomes of the intervention, it has been tried in treating addiction to other substances other than alcohol, although little research exists indicating the success of the same in these other drugs and substances other than alcohol.
