Urban sustainability is the ability to run cities with minimal or no reliance on the countryside to power themselves with feasible, effective, and reliable renewable energy sources. It encourages the revitalization of urban centers, promotes innovation, ameliorates living standards for residents, and reduces negative environmental impacts while maximizing social and economic benefits (Ochoa & Rajaniemi). In the recent past, manual jobs in urban centers have been declining in favor of cognitive jobs. This has had a myriad of effects on the sustainability of urban centers.
Reduced pollution is a positive effect of the transition from manual jobs to cognitive jobs in urban centers. Cognitive jobs like architecture, accounting, and health services do not emit pollutants into the environment like manual jobs involving manufacturing and mining.
