GIS in Land Use and Land Cover
GIS is one of the most important tools when it comes to spatial data collection and analysis. Relative to the applicability of the data in planning, GIS is one of the most widely applied strategies in spatial data management. There are a number of uses that GIS can be put to and one of the most important ones is land use and land cover analysis (Dempsey, 2017). Land use changes over time and the best way to establish these changes is through the use of satellite imaging and analysis.
Using the GIS data, it is possible to establish what land uses have been carried out on a given piece of land over a period of years. It is for this reason that GIS is crucial in the study of global changes (Reis, 2008). Over the years, the land cover and land uses have changed relative to the human activities on the land. Some of the lands that were covered by forests, are now covered in plantations or buildings (Pandian, Rajagopal, Sakthivel, & Amrutha, 2014). It is these modification and changes in land use that have seen the changes in the climate over the years.
