It is true that researchers need to be concerned about research validity and reliability by evaluating their assessment procedures and tools. The validity of an experiment is about conducting a credible evaluation of the hypothesis of both independent and dependent variables (Sheperis, Young & Daniels, 2017). Some of the threats to internal validity include poor planning, how much study participant change over time during research, bias selection of participants, instruments used and dropout rates of participants during research. External validity threats include dishonesty of the research setting, participant's levels of preparation and interaction of selection, treatment and implementation the research (Sheperis, Young & Daniels, 2017).
I concur that some of these threats can be avoided, researcher needs to evaluate and control some of these threats through experimental control or statistical control by reducing the effect of irrelevant variables especially. It’s important to include a control group during research design the use of comparison groups or conduct random assignment and also counterbalancing to minimize threat related to validity and reliability (Sheperis, Young & Daniels, 2017).

Reliability is being consistent, in counseling research; reliability can be achieved when researchers conduct a similar experiment and producing similar results. Validity is the extent in which the research results are measured. One of the major threats to research validity in counseling is having many variables to test which are intangible and cannot be directly be observed. To minimize this problem, researchers need to gather convergent evidence and discriminant evidence (Given, 2008).
