The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the state emergency departments provide several resources to help disaster preparedness and management. These resources have been enhanced through technology to include earth maps that show one’s location and how it is being affected by flooding, a hurricane, or any other kind of natural disaster. This paper explores the flooding resources available and how they can assist in preparedness.
One of the flooding resources available is the Flood Monitor. Floods flow fast and can be quite destructive. It is hard for people to tell if flooding is going to affect their location without enough information. However, the flood monitor enables area residents to stay ahead of any flooding occurrence. Through the flood monitor, people can view the areas within their state that are most affected by flooding and the level of flooding.
