Plato would feel that contemporary democracies are characterized by political, social, and economic inequalities. He would feel that the dominance of the political elite over the masses and the systemic exclusion of specific economic and social population groups from the outcomes of, and influence on, crucial decisions increasingly manifest in modern democratic societies. In addition, Plato would find it absurd that modern democracies create a purportedly normative intolerable atmosphere towards this situation, but political, social, and economic inequalities persist (Lopez & Dubrow, 2020). Plato’s conception of an ideal democracy is a state that takes into account proportional inequalities in the allocation of jobs, including defense, leadership, as well as the appropriation of services and goods, based on inherent inequalities in abilities in crafts, intelligence, spirit, as well as appropriate education (Santas, 2018). According to Plato, this distribution is centered on the city or social justice principle and justified by his philosophy that it is solely with such preservations that society (city) would function best. Furthermore, Plato supported democratic equality in distributing primary political slots, absolute equality within the allocation of property and land, and increasingly limited inequalities in other offices as well as goods (Santas, 2018).
