Why is the struggle towards the heights enough to fill a human's heart?
As the story reveals, Sisyphus was undergoing a terrible punishment that required him to push a heavy rock to the top of a mountain. Many aspects affirm why the struggle to the heights would fill someone's heart. Sisyphus is being punished for disregarding or rebellion against the gods. Therefore, as he struggles towards the height, the heart is filled with the futility of the action. As a person who did not believe in the authority and had disbelief in mortality, Sisyphus is subjected to the futile exercise that is eternal.
The effort to push the rock to the top is illustrated using poetic language, which assists in converting the vain exercise into a transcendence activity throughout his existence. This is usually seen when Sisyphus fulfills his goal, and the rock starts to roll back the mountain. The repetitive nature of the struggle is sufficient to fill the human's heart because as they think that the punishment is over, they have to start again. Therefore, after thinking that he is done with the punishment, he is supposed to start again, negatively affecting the heart.
