Trade barriers are the laws, regulations, and policies put in place by governments to protect their local goods and services from external competition and naturally stimulate exports of certain local goods and services. Trade barriers mirror the domestic government interests despite the inevitable fact that they implicate international relations. Trade barriers have benefits and costs. All approaches of trade protection, including quotas and tariffs, ensure that imports are expensive than locally produced goods and services.
