I concur with Aileen that over the counter drugs are medication accessible to millions of people, this makes them the most abused substance. For example, Dextromethorphan (DXM) if taken in higher doses causing blurred vision, nausea, vomiting numbness, disorientation and tingling of extremities (Over the Counter Addiction, 2017). Some of the potential risks of over the counter drugs include stroke, brain damage, seizure, irregular heartbeat, hallucination and ruptured blood vessels. OTC drugs are considered agents of attempted suicide. Other drugs like Ibrufen damages kidneys (Levinthal, 2016). Similarly, dietary supplements are beneficial but can also affect our health. According to U. S. Food and Drug Administration (2016), dietary supplements have strong biological effects in the body. Dietary supplements when taken with co-existing health problems and if not disclosed prior to surgery can cause adverse reactions.
