Question. 2-1
Dana
I agree with Dana that the brain is triggered by rewards like food, sex, and drugs are rewarding it. If specific parts of the brain are triggered by certain elements, it makes an individual be in a euphoric state, meaning wanting more. For example, when one uses heroin, the brain is triggered, and a high develops which creates the need for more of this substance once the high is worn off. According to Kreek & Koob, (1998), psychoactive drugs modify the brain function causing drug dependency. The same process happiness when with alcohol addiction.
Christina
It is true that the brain reward pathway can be explained in two ways, the part affected by the brain and how the brain transmitters cause eutrophic effects on individuals. The VTA, nucleus accumben, prefrontal cortex all among the brain pathways affected by the drug, when one injects heroin, the drug will travel in the blood stream reaching all areas of the brain. However, the euphoric effects occur when the drug reach the part associated with brain reward pathways affecting the normal brain communication. There is a switch in the brain that is thrown off because of prolonged drug use. Drug-Taking starts as a voluntary process but when the switch is thrown dependency takes over (National Institute on Drug Abuse, 2016).
Question .2- 2
Jeannine
I acknowledge that when we study the chemical interaction in the brain, we study neuron chemistry to understand how chemical influence the neuron functions. It is true that some chemical cause long-term effects especially drugs that trigger neurotransmitters dopamine. For example, marijuana affects dopamine neurotransmitters by sending a happy signal to the other parts of the body. Drug taking behavior is mostly to achieve a euphoric state. Taking drugs like marijuana makes one feel light-headed, relaxed or powerful (Sherman, 2017).
Aileen
I concur with Aileen that individual bad decisions are not caused by drug addiction; people are born with specific levels of neurotransmitters in the brain that affects our levels of reasoning. Drug or alcohol simply alters individual thinking. Neurotransmitters go out of balance when triggered by drugs (Levinthal, 2016). It is important to understand neuronal communication to understand human behavi...
