Introduction
Background of bonnie and Clyde
Women have various reasons for their engagement in criminal activities. A recently concluded study suggests that people only concentrate on the reasons why men commit crimes but forego female offenders. Ever since time, there have been cases of women criminals who shocked the nation. A good example of such a woman is Bonnie Parker was the accomplice to Clyde Barrow, and together they were referred to as Bonnie and Clyde (Viren, 2012). With the help of their accomplices, the couple is believed to have gone on a robbery spree in the South and Central America. They captured headlines for their crimes across the country. The crimes range from murder, robbery with violence and the ability to escape every time the law caught up with them. Although Bonnie was in the company of the criminals for four years straight, there is no direct evidence that links her to the criminal activities. She was regarded to as a machine-gun wielding and cigar-smoking individual who has no record of any crime. After numerous attempts to capture the two, the law finally caught up with them in 1934 (ARTYUKH, 2016). They were shot and killed in an ambush on a rural road in Louisiana. Bonnie first met Barrow when she was 19 years old, and Barrow was 20 and already an ex-con. Their time together was short-lived as Clyde was arrested for a previous crime. When visiting him in prison, she managed to sneak a gun and then their crime spree began with numerous of their robberies ending up in police chases and police murders.
Social factors for her involvement in crime
Some social factors contributed to her involvement in crime and among them is poverty. Both people came from poor backgrounds and desired what they could not afford. She wanted the good things in life, but unfortunately, she could not afford them, so she resulted in criminal activities to feed her habit. One psychological factor associated with her involvement is stated in her diary. When she was sixteen, she was married to one Roy Thornton, and the young girl even tattooed their names on her arm. The relationship took a wrong turn and after two years, they were divorced. She later met Barrow whom she fell in love with. It could be that she was lonely and frustrated by her first relationship that she chose to join Clyde and his criminal plans (Krupa & Childs, 2014).
