Assume you are working in a coastal area (coastal Maryland) and a mountainous area (Bhutan) and answer the following:
1: Please suggest three socio-ecological indicators to measure the Sensitivity of each region mentioned above.
Vulnerability is the degree to which a system is susceptible to or unable to cope with adverse effects of climate change, including climate variability and extremes. The mountain regions and the coastal regions are different climatically and environmentally. Socio-ecological indicators to measure the Sensitivity of each region mentioned above. In the mountain region, drought increases in intensity and frequency, and this leads to little rain. Lower rains lead to limited water supplies in the region. These lead to deforestation, which further aggravates the situation. Climate change leading to an increase of people falling ill in high temperatures, consequently getting dehydrated, dysentery, and malaria. Mountain vulnerability landslide affecting agricultural productivity. Drought frequency increases lead to loss of manpower days due to environmentally sensitive disease/natural hazards. These changes eventually lead to people's migration from one area to another, searching for ways to earn income and produce food. These hinder economic growths and exacerbate human risk. Unpredictable rain patterns that are leading to unpredictable crop yields
Coastal area
The coastal areas are regions lying next to the ocean. The critical indicator is the sea level and changes in the ocean, monitoring erosion and hurricanes that bring flood hazards and overland surges. (“Integrating the social and Natural sciences: Linkages between vulnerability, resilience and adaptive capacity” n.d).
2: Based On These Indicators Of Vulnerability, Please Suggest Responses, Adaptation, Resilience.
Mountain region
Methods of mitigating the impact of environmental degradation include reducing risk, maximizing livelihood diversity, creating community involvement and trust, improving governance structures, strengthening women's participation in decision making, and positioning as agents of change for a mountainous region (“Integrating the social and Natural sciences: ...
