Aboriginal Community in Canada
Aboriginal community is one of the much-talk-about societies in historic and modern Australia and other parts of the world. Approximately three percent of the Australian population traces its roots to aboriginal culture (Blakemore,2019) and accounts for significant population proportions in other countries such as Canada. This observation highlighted the relevance of the aboriginal community and culture in contemporary discourses. It is critical to note that Aboriginal people and Torres Strait Islander communities are the two indigenous societies in Australia. Aboriginal people share a common heritage and are exposed to both historical and emergent opportunities and challenges. The Aboriginal population in Canada exceeds 1 million, and with their rapid urbanization, there is increased contact between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people, leading to various socio-economic and political aspects of co-existence (Currie et al., 2012). This paper will focus on the migrant Aboriginal population in Canada.
Issue: Struggle of Aboriginal People to Fit in Canadian Society
Over time, Aboriginal people face a myriad of challenges in Canada. These problems emerge partly because his community is a minority population. A study showed disproportionate victimization of Aboriginals compared to non-Aboriginal people in Canada (Boyce, 2016). Aboriginal people's overrepresentation as victims of violent crime is a point of substantial attention. Few may refute the fact that aboriginal engagement in crime is proportionally higher than that of non-natives in places such as Canada., but some believe that apart from deep-rooted stigma and social ills, outright discrimination by police and courts also exists (United Nations,2020).  However, the root cause of victimization of the aboriginal community is quite sophisticated and intertwining. The complexity of underlying factors associated with victimization and violence are traceable to histories of childhood mistreatments, increased unemployment, mental health challenges, inadequate formal education and substance abuse (Boyce, 2016). The issue of racial dissemination is quite a controversial and fluid concept. Could racism and ethnic bias be contributing to increased victimization, violence, and incarcerations amongst people of Aboriginal origins? According to United Nations (2020), the Correctional Investigator-an appointed official acting as an ombudsman for Canada's federal correctional services agreed that elements of systemic racial and ethnic discrimination exist in the justice system. The understanding of discrimination under the United Nations Human Rights Council does not need to be deliberate., which means that it can be encapsulated and transmitted as misconceptions about natives, irrespective of how subtle, can be considered discriminatory when acted upon by police or judicial officer.
