Racism is strongly ingrained in U.S socio-economic and political systems. It is encapsulated in institutional and systemic policies, traditions, and policies. The COVID-19 pandemic has exposed the foully of highly institutionalized and systemized racism. For instance, cases of negative bias and microaggressions against Asian American communities have been increasing during the COVID-19 pandemic (Ruiz, Horowitz & Tamir, 2020: Tessler, Choi & Koi,2020). The indigenous and tribal populations face new challenges due to the COVID-19 outbreak, where communities, such as those in Bangledesh, face a shortage of food due to pandemics (Kapaeeng Foundation, 2020). The effect of COVID-19 disproportionately affects races and communities differently.
How do the various forms of structural racism build on each other? Please give at least one specific example.
More often, systemic racism comprises institutional racism and structural racism. Systemic racism encompasses policies and practices entrenched in established institutions that cause the exclusion of a particular group or racism. Institutional racism is racial discrimination where persons adopt racist tendencies due to racial prejudice manifested by leaders and various institutions. Structural racism reflects deeply rooted inequalities rooted in the system. It excludes marginalized races from participation and substantially limits their access to better socio-economic well-being like other dominant races. Example of structural racism includes racial segregation policies and laws such as the exclusion of African-American golfers from elite, private golf courses, and Jim Crow Laws in the U.S
