Based from the evidences stated in Becky and Robin’s cases, I believe that they have Paranoid Schizophrenia. This is because of the presence of their hallucinations and the idea that someone else is out there to conspire or bring them harm CITATION Dzi14 \l 1033 (Dziegielewski, 2014). In the case of Robin, the presence of delusions is very apparent because he is experiencing “persistent auditory hallucinations” (most common symptom of Paranoid Schizophrenia) for almost two weeks already CITATION Ame131 \l 1033 (American Psychiatric Association, 2013). Some other diagnosis that were considered were Delirium, Substance/medication induced psychotic disorder, and psychotic disorder. However because both of them passed for being “drug-free” and that their behaviors and emotions were not off, then these differential diagnoses were discarded.

I believe that Brett’s condition is due to Psychosis. In the case presented, it could easily be seen that he had plenty of cases when he lost his touch with the external reality such as when he was already trying to pour milk in his shoes. Psychosis is a severe mental disorder which affects thought and emotions making a person lose contact with external reality and could last for many months CITATION Mer13 \l 1033 (Mercer, 2013). As can be implied from the case, Brett’s parents are now looking for religious and spiritual explanations to understand his case. Based from my own worldviews, however, I see psychotic disorders not as a function of any spiritual or supernatural reasons, directly. However, I think that if these supernatural and religious beliefs are strongly believed by the individual, and his/her emotions and thoughts were rattled due to an unfortunate circumstance (e.g. death of a loved one), then perhaps, psychotic disorders are most likely to happen CITATION Wit07 \l 1033 (Wittmann & Keshavan, 2007).
