Answer 1
Trust is one of the most important building blocks of developing secure relationships with others. If a person is unable to develop trust with people in his or her surroundings, then there may be psychoanalytical reasons behind it. As stated by Bowlby in his theory (Gazzillo, Dazzi, De Luca, Rodomonti & Silberschatz, 2019), the person might not be provided with secure attachment in his early childhood which makes the person to not trust people around him or her. After listening to the member, I would ask the member of the group what makes him think of others to don’t trust them. Is there something or some act of a person in the group that makes him think about them like this? Can you please tell if your trust level is the same for everyone or it differs from person to person? How can we help you out to develop a sense of trust with the group members?
Answer 2
I will let her listen to other members to develop her trust and decrease her fear of rejection. In a group setting, it is often observed that some individuals might not feel comfortable sharing their feelings and thoughts due to fear of rejection and self-criticizing thinking. When she will observe that others are not targeted or humiliated for what they have experienced, she will definitely open about her feelings. Meanwhile, during the conversation with other members of the group, I might keep on asking questions and her opinion related to the case of another member (Corey, Corey & Corey, 2013. Pp. 28).
Answer 3
If a group member does not want to be there but has to be there, I might ask that person what else is going on in his or her life. I will start a dialogue with them to make them feel a part of the group. Develop rules for the group; every individual will be asked to participate by suggesting one rule that everyone will follow. I will invite each member of a group to participate in the group discussion by sharing how they feel and what they think about while listening to others? Do they encounter a similar situation and how have they to cope with it? Probing questions and input of others will help the group member to get something out of the group. Furthermore, it is suggested in the coursebook (Corey, Corey & Corey, 2013. Pp. 29), in order to deal with such a member in the group, the leader must model the desired behavior in front of them. Through the behaviors and attitudes practice in the group, the leader of the group can develop group norms such as the seriousness of purpose and openness.
Answer 4
The presence of other group members is of great importance. Presence in a group may affect a person from other's joy, pain and struggles. Vivian is uncomfortable with the emotions of other members in the group. It reflects that she is also anxious about her own emotions. As a leader, it is not the task of a leader to limit or insist on a person to inhibit or express their emotions...
