Transition into Adulthood
Rites of passage are unique ceremonies to mark transitioning into adulthood. These ceremonies vary from one community to another. For instance, in Africa and the Aboriginals of Australia, individuals endure seclusion in the forest, starvation, and brutal nature in what is believed to equip the novices with the qualities required to be responsible adults. These qualities are endurance and strength. Also, transition into adulthood means taking relationships and romance to another through weddings in some communities.
Concept of Pluralism and Assimilation.
The pluralism concept involves two individuals coming and working together, but each person keeps their culture even though they are different, they can still work together. Conversely, the assimilation concept involves merging two or more ethnic groups to produce a new culture. They dwell on the positive side that complements each other ( Santrock, 2018). The two concepts primarily affect the rite of passage, wedding, and marriage. For instance, a marriage between an Indian and an African presents a threat, as in India, the bride's family pays for the dowry. In contrast, the bridegroom side pays the dowry in Africa, and the man provides for the family.
