Teenage Pregnancy
According to World Health Organization, more than 12 million teenage (15-19) girls give birth every year. The most affected areas are the developing countries. There are different contributing factors to teen pregnancy, for example, lack of education and poverty. World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that girls indulge in sexual activities due to social media influence.
Definition of Issues, Challenges, and Change Being Proposed
The main issue is discussed in this project is the causes of teenage pregnancy. Although teenage pregnancies have decreased in America, in the other parts of the world, the issue remains a huge problem. Parenting is another issue that will be analyzed to examine teenage pregnancy. Most teenage mothers do not graduate, with many of them ending up with a second child within the first 24 months of the first child (WHO, 2020). It is a serious matter, and most young people tend to fall on this particular nightmare. In most cases, the government and society do not understand the dangers of teen pregnancy. Additionally, 8 out of 10 dads do not marry the mother of their child (WHO, 2020). It is a critical situation since most of them will end up being single mothers. The burden is, therefore, transferred to the parents and other stakeholders concerned about the issue.
Many challenges are associated with solving this particular dilemma. For instance, the media has played a significant role in the matter at hand (Amy, 2016). Sometimes they run programs that arouse sexual feelings in teens. It is difficult to tame some of these programs since rich people run them. Policymakers do not seem to take action on the media streams, which gives the space to run sexually arousing ads. Moreover, there is no awareness of the importance of the significance of contraceptives. Every teen has a 90% chance of getting pregnant which shows the need for this kind of awareness. With proper mobilization, the issue of teen pregnancy can be solved. The results may not be instant, but the solution can be found with time. Creating awareness and campaigns against teen pregnancy would enhance reducing teen pregnancies (Centers of Disease Control and Prevention, 2021). Most teen mothers do not continue with education which creates a significant challenge. Uneducated young people mean reduced labor in the nation, raising the poverty level.
What others have Done
