News Inverted Pyramid: Man and Daughter Die in a Fire in the Bronx

Coursework Instructions:

Instructions
Write a five- to seven-paragraph inverted-pyramid news story from the information contained in "Man and teenage daughter die in another fire in the Bronx." (https://www(dot)nytimes(dot)com/2018/01/14/nyregion/throgs-neck-fire-bronx.html?smid=pl-share) < the link. Be sure your story includes a quote, and be sure you correctly "set up" the quote, following the guidelines described in the Using quotes in newspaper-style copy handout.
Some hints:
The basics of this story are, you'll notice, quite similar to the basics of the made-up story in the Six Rules for Writing a Straight News Lead tutorial (refer to the handout in Module 2 Readings). Both stories are about a fatal fire. Thus, you should be able to write a pretty good straight-news lead for the story.
Remember that each paragraph in the story should be short - typically one to two sentences long, and no more than three.
There's only one quote available in the story: the one from Evelyn Lopez, a neighbor of the father and daughter who died in the fire. Use that quote in your story.
Assessment Criteria
Select, organize and phrase your details into an original version of The NY Times story that follows the Inverted pyramid story format.
Don't just swap some phrases and change a few words from the Times article and call it your own.
Demonstrate an understanding of News Values and Audience through your selection and organization of story details.
Use transition strategies at the beginning and end of your paragraphs to make each new piece of information connect and flow both logically and neatly. Refer to the Transition strategies for news writers handout for various approaches that work well in journalism.
Include one direct quote (as offered in the original story) and be sure to set it up and present it according to the Using quotes in newspaper-style copy handout.
Make sure your lead follows all of the Six Rules for Writing a Straight News Lead.
Demonstrate an effort to be clear and concise in your word choices and phrasing.
Avoid wordiness and redundancies.
Demonstrate solid understanding of accuracies in grammar, punctuation, spelling, syntax and AP Style.

Man and Teenage Daughter Die in a Fire in the Bronx
BRONX, NY — A fire killed a father and his teenage daughter on Sunday in the Thros Neck Houses in the Bronx. Nelson Rojas, 62, and his daughter Yolanda, 13, died after the fire broke out in the apartment complex. Responding to a 911 call at 12:13, firefighter and police officers arrived at the scene on 2821 Dewey Avenue, where they found the victims in a fourth-floor apartment.
According to the police, the cause of the fire was still under investigation. However, the fire was contained to one apartment. The medical examiner Jacobi Medical Center is also expected to determine the cause and manner of their deaths.
The New York City Housing Authority noted that the Thros Neck Houses is part of a complex that was completed in 1953, with an addition in 1971 (Southhall, 2018). The agency expressed devastation by the deaths and will work closely with the F.D.N.Y through their investigations in its press statement. The fire was among the latest in a series in the city.
More than a dozen people have died in recent months, and scores more injured and displaced in fires within the city. Thirteen people, including five children, died when a December fire, caused by a 3-year-old boy playing with a stove, ripped through a Prospect Avenue...
