Machiavellians: Self-Made or Born that Way?

This article questions the manner in which an individual becomes a Machiavellian. Machiavellian is a personality trait which makes an individual to apply cunning and duplicity means in general conduct. According to the article, this psychological trait could either be self-made or inborn in an individual. There is a high possibility that the traits of Machiavellian are genetically found and hence, hereditary passed from generation to generation. In this regard, there are people who were born with callous and manipulative personality traits. Such individuals would register as “high Machs” given a Mach Iv test. However, the majority of people are low Machs. This implies that they can easily be registered as high Machs in the event that the Machiavellian concept is introduced to them. In this regard, when an individual reads The Prince, they are likely to adopt the Machiavellian traits. This is attributed to the fact that the book provides information that would be vital in transforming the psychological reasoning of its readers. In the same manner, a child’s personality can be geared towards Machiavellianism by providing them with a bad foundation. A bad start in life (between birth and 9 years) would make a child to become a psychopath.
