Heritability
Heritability measures how an individual's genes account for their traits. It can also be defined as a statistical measure aligned to a specific population and environment (Young, 2019). It is defined as a critical concept used in psychology and behavioral genetics. In psychology, it is majorly used to determine individual differences. Therefore, heritability comprises two major definitions; the first is statistically based, while the second is sensical. The first definition links genetic variance and phenotypic variance. However, the second definition links individual differences and observed behaviors. As a psychologist, all the two definitions are significant and must be adequately memorized to be applied in other entities. Heritability is defined as a proportion with specific numerical values ranging from 0 to 1.0. During the study of heritability, it is also essential to understand the environment. The environment provides some traits that must be understood and correlated to heredity. The first section is based on the abstract concept, which claims that heritability does not indicate information that leads to a specific trait regardless of the number. The second attribute is the population concept which focuses on individual characteristics. Therefore after understanding the definition of heritability, it is easy to apply it to different concepts such as twin study.
Results of Cattell's Study and Heredity
Before summarizing the results, it is necessary to understand the subjects of the study. The key subjects are 18 and 12-year-old boys from Downstate Illinois, Chicago, and Cleveland (Loehlin, 2011). The testing comprised a population is 1700. Among the individuals, 134 were identical twins divided into two pairs; 127 were unrelated and...
