Freudian Psychoanalysis is a Theory of Personality
Psychoanalysis can be described as a study of mind and behavior. Freudian psychoanalysis is a theory of personality that states that actions and thoughts are determined by unconscious motives and conflicts (Zhang, 2020). Therefore, the basic tenets of Freudian psychoanalysis include human behavior, cognition, and experience, which are mostly determined by irrational drives. Another tenet is that these drives are often unconscious and that attempting to bring them into awareness tends to meet psychological resistance in the form of defense mechanisms. Besides the inherited personality, the development of a person is also determined by events that took place in one's childhood. In this case, the experiences of a child that remain in its memory determine how an individual interacts with the social world upon growing up.
Another tenet of Freudian psychoanalysis is that conflicts that occur between the conscious view of reality and the repressed or unconscious material cause mental distances. Examples include neurotic traits, depression, neurosis, and anxiety. Lastly, liberating someone from the effects of conscious material can be achieved through bringing the material into the consciousness. In other words, making people aware of things they do unconsciously can liberate them from the dangers of their unconscious actions.
Standardization, Reliability, and Validity in Assessment Instrument
Standardization in assessments entails consistency where all test takers have to answer some questions and where all answers are graded in a similar predetermined way. Consistency is also found in reliability, which entails the degree to which assessment scales produce consistent results if repeated. However, reliability focuses more on precision while standardization focuses on the comparability of the test results. Validity can be defined as the extent to which assessments measure what they were designed to measure.
