Understanding the different phases in life is important for anyone who deals with the development of individuals. This includes teachers, educators, and even parents who have the biggest roles in the development of a child. In line with this, this article would focus on the idea of Emerging Adulthood for individuals aged 18 to 25. In most cases, we believe that once a child has entered the age of 18, which is the legal age, he is then considered as an adult for all intents and purposes. It is as if we believe that the entry of an individual in this specific time of his life would magically change his attitudes, perceptions, and aspects in life. Nonetheless, the purpose of this paper is to address these misconceptions and look at the challenges that an individual faces during this time of his life. Compared to the common belief as outlined above, most individuals experience this transition phase for a much longer period of time – 18 to 25 years old. Thus, it is the author’s belief that knowing these challenges that individuals face during this transition is essential to improve our ideas about development and growth.
