The main differences between a prokaryotic and eukaryotic cell are their size and the presence or absence of membrane-bound organelles and cell structures. Eukaryotic cells are larger and complex than prokaryotes, whose size does not exceed 10 microns and have a simpler structure. A true nucleus (DNA surrounded by a membrane) is present in eukaryotic cells, the cytoskeleton, and other organelles, such as mitochondria and chloroplasts.
