How Technology Influences People’s Self-Concepts
Self-concepts are similar to self-identities, and they entail individuals’ uniqueness in how they perceive themselves. Technology has significantly affected the way humans think, learn, and communicate with each other. As such, technology has a negative influence on people’s self-concepts.
Although the use of social networking platforms, such as Facebook, WhatsApp, and Twitter, helps people to get social support, it also has negative impacts on users’ self-esteem or self-perception. Self-concept is shaped by the confidence that a person has in showing others who she or he is based on behaviors and personalities.
