Conformity is associated with people's behavior in the same or similar manner in groups, and group members are expected to be conventional. This is especially the case with norms, and conforming requires seeking permission, approval, and sometimes equality. One of the benefits of conformity is that it helps in rule enforcement. People know what is expected of them, and people follow the rules, and their expectations are based on rules, and if they break the rules, they are penalized. Additionally, conformity provides opportunities to protect against outside threats, and there is a safety net.
