1 Based on what you know about motivation (before taking this class), what do you think are the active ingredients in positive behavior change and negative behavior change?
Behavior is dependent on the environment where the individual belongs. It is an act a human does in response to a situation or stimulus. Moreover, the behavior is also a reaction against a specific stimulus from the environment. Therefore, the behavior is modifiable once the environment and stimuli change. The two types of behavior change, namely, positive and negative, are dependent on these factors.
Positive and negative behavior changes are not similar to good and evil, respectively—positive means to add something while negative means to remove something. There are active ingredients in promoting such behaviors. To motivate an individual to have a positive behavior change, the person must be given a reward once he accomplishes a task or performs better. This is what we call positive reinforcement, which is done to promote a specific behavior. Furthermore, positive behavior change can be promoted when the environment changes while a new set of skills is being taught to the individual. By contrast, a negative behavior change is influenced by removing a specific stimulus to promote a particular response. An example of a positive behavior change is a behavior change that has a tremendous influence on the individual (i.e., smoking cessation). In contrast, an example of a negative behavior change is a behavior that results from the removal of a stimulus (i.e., a child developing tantrums when he does not get what he wants).
2 In your opinion and experience, what are the active ingredients in creating positive behavior? What creates negative behavior? Where did you learn this/why do you think this?

To create a positive behavior, one must learn how to adapt to the continuously changing environment and respond to the constant changes in other people’s attitudes. These two primary factors directly influence the individual’s perspective, and consequently, his personality.
For positive behavior change, the main ingredien...
