Contemporary Victimology
Victimology entails the scientific study of emotional and physical harm that individuals undergo due to criminal activities. The six primary topics that are commonly investigated in contemporary victimology include the following:
i. Sexual assault.
Sexual assault involves intentionally sexually touches to a person, using physical force, or coercion without one’s consent. An example of sexual assault is rape. Contemporary victimology emphasizes this topic to come up with ways to eliminate sexual assault.
ii. Intimate partner violence.
Intimate partner violence entails sexual, emotional, and physical abuse that arises from a controlling individual (World Health Organization, 2012). When people are in an intimate relationship, they should agree on things to do. However, if one person dominates in everything, the other partner might be hurt emotionally or physically.
iii. Internet victimization.
Internet victimization involves using electronic gadgets in a way that hurts others. For example, one might use social media and comment or upload an image that hurt another individual.
