Chapter 5 dealt with consciousness, which is the state of awareness of internal and external stimuli. People's awareness about stimulation commonly qualifies people as "alive" when viewed from a particular psychological and philosophical lens. What I have learned that stuck to me about the lesson included the different types of consciousness, altered states of consciousness, and how drugs influence the psychology of people.
The different types of consciousness reflect the status of consciousness as a multi-faceted system in a person's psychology. Awareness, attention, sense of self, observations, and the waking state all describe the different types of consciousness, and more often than not, these different types work together as a whole.
