Numerous theories have come up over the years to explain the cause of crime. Each theory focuses on a different hypothesis to offer an accurate description and explanation of crime (Irtelli & Vincenti, 2017). One of the theories that I think best explains the cause of crime is the trait theory. The theory suggests that criminal activities are common among people with certain personality traits that predispose them to crime. The theory was first coined by Michael Lombroso, who reveals that criminals are comparable to throwbacks to primality, both mentally and physically.
The trait theory is the best explanation of crime since it is based on the idea that psychopaths have specific characteristics that encourage them to engage in crime. It means the person lacks empathy or remorse, is insensitive, self-centered, and likes grandiosity. In some cases, some criminal traits include a person who is manipulative, charming, or charismatic. A person's traits mean that an individual can be born a criminal (Irtelli & Vincenti, 2017). If the person's genetic predisposition makes them impulsive and fearless that they can easily take risks, they could easily become criminals.
