After several on and off ailments and prolonged treatment attempts, I have just found out I have stage 4 cancer of leukemia. The doctor has broken the news to me, and I am still in deep thoughts and despair. I am in tears knowing the world will be gone in a few weeks. As you all know, stage 4 cancers are severe and potentially fatal, with no hope of treatment as you wait for your death. The question is, what type of treatment would I prefer after the heartbreaking news? Aggressive or experimental, or do I not want any treatment at all? I would be mean to myself if I said I did not want any treatment at all. Instead, why should I try an experimental treatment that can benefit treatment in the future, or might I be lucky to heal from the experiment? Plus, my chances of survival are very minimal. Psychologically I cannot deny the fact that the news has affected me. But thinking again, it is relieving knowing one day your suffering will be put to an end.
Thinking of aggressive treatment, I did not wish to have the chemotherapist session and be taken to the intensive care unit. The aggressive treatment would only be a burden to me mentally and to my caregivers. For me, even though my days of life would be prolonged, it would be...
