Birth Order and Adler’s Notions of Personality

Essay Instructions:

Overview:
Adler believed that your birth order determines, to a large extent, your personality. He stated that
your traits reflect, somehow, how you have achieved a sense of superiority. He found that first-borns
tend to be the most accomplished academically and financially. The last-born are the most social
and popular and the middle ones are often either “troublemakers” or “peacekeepers.” Only children,
he said, often feel more comfortable around adults than people their own age.
In this assignment, you will examine what you know about Adler’s notions of personality and analyze
the accuracy of his way of thinking.
Instructions:
Please answer the following questions about yourself or someone you know well:
• What is your birth order in your family. I am first born of my 5 siblings
• Describe some of your personality traits, between three and five.
I am the mother, the take care person, the friendly one, the out going one, the life of the party.
• Read the article, A Review of 200 Birth-Order Studies: Lifestyle Characteristics.
(I provided a link I upload of the article)
o This is an article that reviews many studies about birth order characteristics in people
over many studies. The results can be difficult to comprehend as there are so many
findings but look at tables 1, 2 and 3 to get an overview of how first-borns, middle
children and last-born are found to differ. The higher a trait is on the chart, the more
frequently a study found it to be a significant personality factor so focus on the top 4 or
so traits on each list.
• Explain how accurate the article is for you.
Requirements:
• The body of the paper should be 1-2 pages in length, double spaced, with additional title and
reference pages
• The document should conform to APA format, including in-text citations for referenced works.

Birth Order and Adler’s Notions of Personality
The need to understand how different social influences influence personality led to Adler's theories. According to the birth order theory, siblings are not biologically similar in terms of behaviors and emotions, despite having the same environment and genes. According to Adler, personality traits reflect how an individual came to feel superior. According to Adler, firstborns are neurotic and have more financial and academic success. Since a second child is usually born soon after, firstborns do not share with parents for long. According to Eckstein et al. (2010), the younger siblings are aggressive, while the children born in the middle of others tend to be well-positioned in the family and display emotional maturity.
I am the oldest of five children in a family of five. I'm the mother, the one who looks after everyone, the one who is polite, outgoing, and the group's life. According to Adler, firstborns are usually dutiful; therefore, my motherly aspect and take-care personality can be depicted in that light. According to science, firstborn children are naturally raised using a combination of instinct and trial-and-error methods (Eife, 2019). As a result of the situation, parents become stringent, rigid, and rule-following caregivers who are overly vigilant about even the smallest detail. As a result, the child becomes a perfectionist and a high achiever, always trying to please their parents. The point of view clarifies the article's point of view on high achievers.
The need to be disciplined and succeed in all aspects of life has always been a part of me. This factor may stem from the natural tendency of firstborns to hang out with older people. It also explains why, at a young age, I began behaving like an adult and taking on responsibilities. Leadership skills have instilled in me a friendly and outgoing personality....
