Despite the many benefits such cameras present, considerable controversy surrounds their use. Serious concerns raised involve privacy issues, such as when officers visit homes, interview a sexual assault victim, or obtain footage where juveniles are involved. Other concerns center on the storage capabilities of such technologies and how data can be retrieved if such cameras fail to operate (Hess, Orthmann, & Cho, 2016). Automated speed enforcement is another technology used by law enforcement officers to apprehend criminals. Red-light running is commonly practiced using cameras, but with less access to speeding applications. Enforcing speed limits on all roads is a great challenge to the law enforcement officers. Automated enforcement technologies increase enforcement efforts and communal discernment on the likelihood of speeding citations. Such technology discourages drivers from driving at a speed above the allowed limits. Probably this can be achieved in the absence of the police officers if the law permits such use.
