Over the past several years, disasters and infectious disease outbreaks have proven the need for emergency preparation for large-scale catastrophes impacting many people. Surge capacity is a metric that measures a facility's ability to handle a large inflow of patients in a short period. It is reliant on a well-functioning event management system and the factors of space, supplies, personnel, and any other particular concerns (Kaji et al., 2006). Most current attempts to address surge capacity in my local area concentrate on finding necessary numbers of hospital beds, employees, medications, medical supplies, and technology because of their substantial relationship to patient load. The health care system has a reserve bed quantity of 30 beds and hires members from the paramedic department to help with inpatient care in times of medical surges.
