The success of a leader relies on a broad range of business and management knowledge and skills. Specifically, a leader must constantly learn and grow, and everything that happens should be viewed as an opportunity to explore and discover new things. A leader must analyze and reflect on his efficiency and become more aware of the decisions he makes and how he acts on his motives (Kouzes & Posner, 2017). Therefore, a leader must constantly assess and improve oneself.
Kouzes and Posner developed The Leadership Practices Inventory-Self to aid in a leader’s self-assessment and improvement. The Leadership Practices Inventory-Self contains five exemplary leadership practices and thirty statements appraised using a Likert Scale. The statements are designed to assist participants in evaluating their engagement in each of the five practices (Clavelle & Prado-Inzerillo, 2018). The five practices of the exemplary leadership model outline the fundamental principles and behaviors that can assist a leader in succeeding (Kouzes & Posner, 2017). Hence, a leader may utilize this tool to identify strong points and areas for improvement.
A leader must be cognizant of how to request a team to accomplish a task they do not want to do. A leader must also know how to inspire the team to achieve their goals. Hence, it is the leader’s responsibility to inspire others toward a shared vision. There are two keys to inspiring others. The first step is to think of the future by seeing enticing and unbounded possibilities, and the second step is to involve others in a shared vision by appealing to shared aspirations. However, my lowest-scoring leadership behavior is Inspire a Shared Vision.
