Background Information
Walmart has revolutionized the retail market and is helping poor people around the work to live a better life and save money. The shop allows shoppers to access the goods anywhere they are through their eCommerce platforms covering twenty-six countries. Through their approximately eleven thousand four hundred stores, Walmart serves over two hundred and forty customers weekly. Walmart has a strategy to ease the life of busy families, become digital, and sharpen our cultures while ensuring a competitive advantage in the market.
To make life easier for busy families, Walmart has committed to price leadership over the years and still is the pillar that holds the franchise through their strategy of everyday low prices. The strategy is a philosophy to make their customers aware of the stability in prices across Walmart stores, so they do not worry about price fluctuations due to promotional activities. Walmart trade on the New York Stock Exchange as "WMT" and has head offices in Bentonville, Arkansas. Walmart comprises three segments: Walmart U.S, Walmart International, and the Sam's Club.
Walmart U.S Segment
The Walmart U.S segment is dominated by three formats, although only two are the most dominant: the supercenters and the discount stores. The third Walmart format under the U.S segment is the Neighborhood Markets which is less familiar but generates enough revenue for the franchise. Walmart discount stores and supercenters operate across all the fifty states, while the Neighborhood stores only operate in seventeen states. Walmart U.S operates all retail stores in the United States, and all the formats can also be accessed through the Walmart.com website.
The fiscal year 2021 saw Walmart U.S record a sale of 370 billion dollars, constituting sixty-seven percent of total sales in the same year. Walmart U.S is the biggest revenue generator for the entire franchise. Walmart U.S offers Omni-channels that integrate eCommerce and retail by offering pickups and deliveries for the customers. The fiscal year 2021 saw Walmart complete 3750 pickups and 3000 delivery locations. The segment deals in groceries, general merchandise, health and wellness products, etc.
Walmart International Segment
The international segment comprises wholly or majority-owned subsidiaries by Walmart and operates in over twenty-five countries outside the United States. In Latin America, it operates in the countries of Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, Chile, and Puerto Rico. Walmart International also operates in Asian countries like India, Japan, and China. As of January 2021, Walmart commenced its operations in the United Kingdom with other locations spread across Africa. In 2021, the Walmart International segment reported a net sale of 121.4 billion dollars, representing twenty-one percent of the consolidated net sales.
Sam's Club Segment
