Introduction
In the article, “Institutional memory – US air force”, institution memory is defined as the pool of experiences, learned lessons and the best of practices that an individual or a group in the place of work have accumulated in a certain duration (Child, 2019). The accumulated knowledge, skills and experiences makes an organization be addressed as a living organization.
Organizations as living organisms
It is widely known that organizations are artificial persons. They differ with the natural person on the bases of actual life that involves breath and similar functions. However, an organization tends to imitate the life of a natural person, that is, it is born, grows, matures and later dies just like the normal natural person would go through. Dr. Knowles description of organizations as living organisms may have reflected from these features of a natural human being as compared to the organization.
An organization works independently and can execute its functions just like a natural person. This is much attributed to the institutional memory that involves the experience and knowledge that the organization has invested in people and thus accumulated over a certain period.
