Introduction
Dashboard refers to an analytical and intelligent tool that gathers data from different information sources and portrays them in a comprehensive, concise, thoughtful, and meaningful way employing visual attributes in the archetype of key performance indicators (KPIs) (Vahedi et al., 2022). It facilitates efficient decision-making to ensure managers can take brief assessments of the status quo concerning whether the assessment performance is beneficial or undesirable, establish current issues, analyze their key determinants, and ultimately enhance their performance. In this context, different dashboards are designed and employed in real-world situations to address problems within a limited timescale. For example, dashboards have been leveraged to properly integrate and disseminate evidence to support decision-making processes in healthcare organizations. This paper evaluates the purpose of operational, tactical, and strategic dashboards and evaluates their differences in terms of users, scope, information, emphasis, and frequency of updates.
Purpose of Operational, Tactical, and Strategic Dashboards
Dashboards are recently adopting the three main dashboards for various reasons. The contemporary enterprise manager constantly relies on dashboards to support their ability to effectively and efficiently run their organization. Performance dashboards transform strategy into initiatives, metrics, tasks, and objectives personalized for individuals and teams within the enterprise. The dashboard offer information that could augment decision-making and optimize business processes within the company. The primary goals of performance dashboards, irrespective of the type, are business performance improvement, strategic communication and dissemination, and efficient performance management (Bugwandeen & Ungerer, 2019).
Dashboards are categorized into three main types. Operational dashboards support tracking, management, and control of particular business processes and activities based on detailed data and are generally utilized by front-line workers. These dashboards demonstrate shorter timescales as well as operational processes. Tactical dashboards facilitate the assessment of progress in core initiatives and departmental procedures – principally for analysis – and are generally used by managers and executives. They are typically used to track performance. Strategic dashboards are tailored to ensure the company is aligned with its strategic goals and are primarily employed by top leaders to evaluate monthly performance (Bugwandeen & Ungerer, 2019). These are focused on high-level metrics and long-term strategies.
