Big data constitutes a new model of technologies for data generated at high speeds and volume. The technology has been regarded as a game changer in transforming the operations of businesses in various industries (Lee, 2017). The main ideas discussed in the article include the evolution of big data that has largely been driven partly by the concepts of Internet of Things (IoT) and social media from big data 1.0 in 1994-2004, big data 2.0 in 2005-2014, to the present model of big data 3.0 that began in 2015 to present (Lee, 2017).
